Location Decisions senior consultants Conor Finnegan and Andreas Schindler have authored a new analysis piece published in Business Facilities Magazine, examining how land scarcity across Europe is fundamentally reshaping corporate site selection strategy.
The piece, "Locations in Europe: Brownfield Sites Offer Increasing Options", argues that brownfield redevelopment has moved from a fallback option to the primary strategy for companies evaluating European expansions. As greenfield opportunities become increasingly constrained by density, regulation, and competition for available land, investor interest in brownfield sites has accelerated — driven by their locational advantages, existing transport infrastructure, established labour markets, supplier ecosystems, and proximity to research institutions.
For companies considering European expansion, the analysis concludes that success will increasingly depend on understanding this structural shift and engaging with regions that are actively de-risking and bringing investment-ready brownfield assets to market.
